Vacuum bags for storing woollens/quilts

Post by ukr2i »

Does anyone know where I can buy vacuum bags (space saver bags) for storing winter clothes/quilts in Mumbai? Are these available online? I checked Indiatimes shopping/Infibeam etc but could not find anything there.

This is something like what I am looking for:

Thanks in advance.

I got them thro eBay when we were r2i-ing from the UK. They usually have packages with different sizes- you need large ones for quilts etc. Extremely useful and worthwhile buy.

Wife is easily impressed by the TV infomercials. We bought these to fit more stuff in our small condo. The issue is that the vaccum never holds for more than a couple months when new, (days/weeks after a year). When the air gets in, it inflates and is as good as a normal giant ziplock/Hefty plastic bag. These days I try to take quilts/comforters in these bags for winter camping trips, to save space in our rooftop cargo box, it is pretty much used as a big plastic bag than a space saver.

#3, as in everything, the quality varies. try www.spacebag.com and see those items. We packed some extra quilted comforters in them two years ago. They are still in the closet, in that same crinkled shape.

Dear sumachechi, GutsyGibon and okonomi,

Many thanks for your inputs. We got some of these bags when we moved from the UK a few months back and used these to store some of our winter clothing. Now I find that the stuff that were packed in these bags didn't grow any mould, but everything else did (effect of Mumbai monsoon in an extremely damp apartment :) ). So I am looking for more of these bags to protect the rest of our woollens/quilts.

Spacebag has an option of shipping outside the US for a fee. Since Ebay.in sells these in India, I am going to go for it to save on shipping. Thanks again for all your help.

good idea.....It would be great if you post again some six months after you pack some stuff in one of the bags you buy. My experience with ultra humid conditions is weak. So it will be nice to know and extremely helpful to other families who live in India and cycle through temperature and humidity extremes every year.
