Thanks for starting the thread Rbee.

I am not a big Black Friday shopper, though this time around I am looking for a near-top-of-the-line blu ray player. This player will be used to project movies on a 100 inch screen. I am looking for something with quick load times, apps (Amazon Prime, HBOGO and Youtube primarily) and decent remote. Any recommendations?

Is it worth buyiing an old generation Playstation (PS3) as a blu ray player? I am not into video games (I have an old wii collecting dust) and it will be mainly for playing blu ray and apps.

My kid is into hacking video consoles and is looking for a old wii with most of the accessories. He says that it is easier to hack into a wii than into a wii-U. He just won a ebay auction today and is now can't wait to get it soon to Hyd. The package weighs about 15 pounds so shipping is not economical. Please let me know if any of you are coming to Hyd in the next week or two.

Looking for a 70" LED TV. I'm tempted to go for a 4K TV than the HDTV one. But, they are so damn expensive.

A few days ago, the remote slipped out of my kid's had and crashed into my 70" Sharp TV. The poor kid was more upset than I was.

Anyways, looking to replace it as I can reuse the wall-mount too.

That's a little harsh!! Just because he broke a damn TV you want to replace your kid and mount him to a wall??!!??

I bought this http://www.amazon.com/Sony-BDPS5200-Blu-ray-Player-Wi-Fi/dp/B00HPMCO6O/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

I use it to project to 110 inch screen. Pretty solid one for blu-ray. PS3 is overkill as it's OS tends to be heavy as it needs to support gaming. The PS3 controller to operate the blu-ray is also a pain. Again, it is designed for gaming that also works for Blu-ray. Sony also releases updates from time to time. The blu-ray player has stripped down version, its own remote ( not gaming controller) and doesn't need frequent firm ware updates. Wi-Fi seems to be issue for sony players. I had to return one. The second one has been good.

For Bluray and apps you are better off buying a standalone smart bluray player - LG and Samsung have ones under $100
