Commonwealth Bank Series

Are you ready for the next exciting tri-nation cricket series after an exciting 2007-08 Ind-Ozzie test series? Here we go.

India, Australia and Sri Lanka will face off in a 12 match series. The top two will then advance to a best of 3 finals.

Let the fun begin! Hopefully Bhajji's appeal doesn't put a dampner on this well anticipated series. Will India be able to push off the fight by underdogs Sri Lanka and then go onto tussle down the mighty Ozzies? Dhoni's squad thinks it can. Let's find out over the next 6 weeks

Fantasy Corner:
This series will be our third R2IClub fantasy contest. We started in a small way in Ind-Pak series and got to a healthy size of 10 teams in the Ind-Aus test series. With 3 team to pick players from, this will definitely be a lot more excitement! Are you interested? Read on..

Guys,

Test series was fun. I will take a pass on ODI series. Next couple of weeks are gonna be hectic.

For the Record: I am the first to vote for India winning the series.

BTW, for the superstitious folks - This is my 444th post and the 4th post in this thread.

Chak De India!

As we are team of youngsters with not a whole lot of experience in Aus, it is fair enough to say that we can start with low expectations. This way we won't be disappointed even if we finish last. Aus start as favourites and even though stranger things have happened in cricket, we have to assume that Aus will qualify for finals. So, it is a battle for the other finalist spot between India and SL. It will be interesting to see what our batting line up would be.

1) Sachin
2) Sehwag
3) Gambhir
4) Yuvraj
5) Rohit Sharma or Raina
6) Uthappa
7) Dhoni
8) Pathan
9) Piyush chawla or Harbhajan
10) Sreesanth or Praveen Kumar
11) RP singh (barring injury) or Ishant

This is my preliminary squad and any player can be easily substituted for others depending on performance and injuries. While our batting department is short on experience (in Aus), our bowling department is pretty thin due to injuries, inexperience, and lack of 5th bowler. Guess we have to depend on sehwag, sachin and yuvraj combined for the same. In the batting, we are top heavy with sachin and sehwag being the most experienced.

Your invitations are sent out just now. I will approve the teams once I hear back from you via cricinfo. Including my team, we are now 5. I am planning to cut off our league at 10 teams, but let's see how the interest is. If there is more interest, I have other ideas.

You should try playing our fantasy cricket considering the indepth analysis you do. It took me 15 minutes to setup the team for the first time. I will probably spend 45 more minutes over the next 5 weeks making tweaks to my team. So it's really not such a drain on time for a regular cricket follower, but keeps one on the edge of her/his seat for every game, even when India is not playing that well :emwink:

Fantasy league is more interesting when there is keen competition involving knowledgable folks.

Now that bhajji's case is resolved, this series is in no danger. One of us should aim to win at least one IPod when there is one for grab for each game. I am sure there are enough 'managers' here who can stratigically think of a team's composition to win at least once. In football we had access to 1800 players and 32 teams. In cricket slowly, we are getting a wider access. This series gives you access to nearly 45 players from 3 teams.

Gradually I would envision cricinfo to combine multiple series, and also give us one centralized pool of resources, so that managers can fight to pick the best in their budget. That would be more interesting like the football fantasy. I have written many times to cricinfo and I am sure they are thinking. The better part of cricket fantasy is that there are nice prizes unlike yahoo or ESPN football deals. :emteeth:

I don't know how much time is involved nor if I have to watch the games and keep tweaking teams. I don't get to see most of the games (I try and catch highlights when I can) so don't know if I can play the fantasy league. Thanks for asking though.
