Can anyone help with the process related questions in gaining back IN citizenship and renouncing US citizenship?
Note that IN asks that you submit the 'certificate of renunciation from the foreign country' between "IN's acceptance of application for IN citizenship" and issue of the IN citizenship certificate. That points to a problem - one could be stateless for a brief period. Or worse, if IN decides to reject your application for some reason, you'd be in deep trouble. I suppose the IN's acceptance is not given lightly and it is probably an assurance of the IN citizenship but technically, there could still be a problem. http://www.renunciationguide.com says that some US consulates ask for the other country's passport to avoid this issue. But that seems like a deadlock situation. I'm sure, in reality things must be better. So, is there anyone who can advise based on their experiences?

Giving up US citizenship to gain Indian citizenship - Process
Many people in this forum have not reached that stage in life. They are still struggling to get H1b, GC/USC and raising their kids in America. People who r2i are not sure if they will have to R2A, so they will hang on to USC.
The group who r2i after retirement are the only group that will benefit from giving up USC. That crowd is minuscule and close to zero. You can check with Sonia as she got IC after giving up Italian citizenship - she is the only person I know who got IC :)

Giving up US citizenship to gain Indian citizenship - Process
I'm hoping there would be a few with first hand or second hand experience who'll come forward to share it. There have been some past threads which shows that there were a few people who thought about this. I wonder if they resolved the issue and how.
I don't agree with you that only the retired will benefit from giving up the USC.

I think once application is accepted, that is equal to citizenship is approved (letter stating that should be enough not to become stateless), it is just now matter of confirming you renounced another citizenship and then issuing you a certificate . You can write to MHA to clarify on this before you actual start the process.
