Help Needed - Visa for a newborn British Child in Coimbatore

Post by g_senthil_mm »

Both me and wife are British citizens with OCI. I am in UK now and My wife went to India to give birth and our child got the British passport.

It's been already 40 days since the child got the British passport and while checking the application process for OCI, I came to know that we need to apply for some kind of visa (entry visa, or New visa) before OCI. I called FRRO office in Chennai and they advised me that I need to go to Police Commissioner office in Coimbatore and get it done.

But from reading old posts, they have mentioned that we need to travel to Ministry of Home Affairs in Delhi.

Could anyone who recently had a infant born in India for parents with overseas passport explain me the process in getting the OCI done.

Call your consulate in India (British HC) and ask them what you need to do. All consulates help their citizens with pesky issues like this. They might have already helped out others from your country, and would have the right experience for your case.

Is the entry visa needed to travel back to UK? If not then can the family travel back to UK on British passport and then apply for OCI from there. Its relatively easy from there and there is no need for entry visa prior to OCI

always there are exemption.
hope birth certificate will be given by coimbatore municipality. try to get 10 to 20 certificates (original)
visit ur coimbatore police commissionerate and request to apply the OCI card, based on the
1.) kid's british passport,
2.) parent passport copy,
3.) parents OCI copy
4.) along with the kid's birth certificate copy.
5.) declaration letter from the house owner stating that the residing resident (ur kid) stays with you from the period ....
6.) declaration letter from the parents, stating kid is not included in the ration card , electoral id etc

the oci card appln will be endorsed at coimbatore police commissionerate and will be forwarded to delhi jaisalmer location office based on the application of OCI form. in the oci appln form, u need to see the date of entry of
her (entry date) matching with her birth date. hope u understood. get appointment at the coimbatore police commisionarate. submit the forms along with the proof's and the file will be sent (via online) to delhi jaislamer office and they will issue the OCI card.

Staying within india and born at india doesnt need entry visa at the time of biirth. it is retrofit based on the issued british passport.

While the time lines are different for the Exit visa and OCI card, applying for the OCI card and jumping through the various hoops in India, relying on spurious information from various government sources, and traveling from post to pillar, has a very positive side to it.

The Child would grow older, and even catch a few immunological powers on the way. An older child's ears would certainly be stronger for the rigors of take off, flying way up high, and landing. Some airlines would even offer passenger advisories for their very young clients to wait a little before starting to fly.

As for timeline to get a visa to get out of India, our government (USA, we're number ONE !) says this at their consulate website:
[QUOTE]Whether you plan to stay in India or travel outside India, your child will need an Indian visa. After receiving the passport for your child, you can apply for an Indian visa at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in your area, where the visa will be placed in your child's new passport. Make an appointment with FRRO here.

The process of getting an Indian visa generally takes up to three business days. In surrogacy cases, getting the Indian visa can take up to 2 weeks. Because this is a government of India process, the Embassy cannot say exactly how long it will take, or expedite the process. Your child cannot leave India without this visa.

If the OP needs his wife and child in a hurry, FRRO visa of whatever sort he can get in 3 days ( 3 days ?! :wink that is likely US embassy humor) is what he may need.
