R2I try out

Not sure if this is the right category for this question, admins please move as applicable.

As like most desis, its always at the back of my mind going back and living in India. Fortunately I got an assignment from work to go live in India for 2 years and take a permanent transfer if we like to live there, though its not my hometown but its just a flight away. But this comes with other problems - what to do with the home? rent or sell? Renting needs baby sitting like property management and the risk of bad renter. selling I feel like I won't have address to use - is that even a valid concern? Also what if we decided to come back and the market is 20% up when we come back? confused but need to make a decision soon. What would you all do in this situation?

you have got an awesome offer..we had an opportunity like this but screwed it up.For you,It is a try out and if it doesn't work, you can always get back.
By the way..if you are in the process of GC ..what happens if you go to India for two years? If you are a citizen,no problem.
Selling is the best option regards home.Well...chances market might be 20% up when you get back but what if you decide to stay back in India?

Renting agencies can take care of things with small fee in US. Worth to adress ur concern. Maybe let one of ur friends handle it if they agree to take money and do it.

This may be a good option for you to try, if you dont like it , go back.

Friend of mine at work moved back and rented his house.

If your property is in a good location and there is potential for future growth, I wouldn't sell it. You would rent it. If you hire a good real estate agent, they will help to do background checks and find someone good and you can ask for at least 2 years of lease agreement. You can hire a property management company to manage or do it yourself remotely. Most times it will involve a electrician, plumber or handy man, if you have contacts for these, not hard to manage remotely. I would definitely look at renting option.

Some questions to receive good answers.
1. What's your current immigration status?
2. What do you want to do in short/long term in terms of moving to India?
3. (Very important) what does your wife and kids(age?) wants if you have any?

Thanks everyone for responding, we have decided to put it for both renting and selling - whichever one comes first we will take it - tired of thinking about each option everyday. To answer some of the questions, we are both GC and kids are citizens, so we would be filing for re-rentry permit and N470. Though I want to move back to India, the family doesn't but they are okay for temporary assignment like this. My kids are in 2nd grade but its long shot hoping they would be like the new place and want to live there permanently, as its not our hometown.

Bad idea to list as both.
As a renter, when I see the owner has posted both, I avoid.

Rent it. When you come back to US and start living in same home transition will be easy.
