FIFA World Cup 2018

Post by RRS »

This edition starts with host nation Russia against Saudi Arabia.

July 15 is finals 2 hrs after men?s finals in Wimbledon. I hope men?s finals gets over within 2 hrs : )

Germany is expected to repeat after going 10-0 in qualifying rounds. But pre-tournament favorite is one thing ( except Nadal in clay off course) but living up to expectation is another.

Can Messi win atleast once the prestigious cup for his country Argentina in his stellar career?

Salah is the reason why Egypt qualified first time since 1990. I am rooting for Salah and Messi and let the best looking man win : )

Which team are you rooting for?

Always for Brazil :). Let's see if Ronaldo can do something for Portugal (dark horse)

Wouldn't mind if any one of these 3 teams win FIFA World cup -

Brazil
Portugal
Argentia

My money is on Germany. They have many match winners in Muller, Ozil and Wagner.
Add to that they have Neuer. He saved Bayen Munich's butt umpteen times and is the de facto Messi when it comes to GK.

But, being a Barca fan, my heart wants Messi to lift the cup.

As much as I like Ronaldo and Messi, I don't think either Portugal or Argentina are going to make it till finals (semi at the most). My money is on Brazil, Germany and France for obvious reasons. My favorite dark horse is Spain because they just read like who is who of soccer...(sorry for copy paste but too lazy to type entire list)

Goalkeepers: Pepe Reina (Napoli), David de Gea (Manchester United), Kepa Arrizabalaga (Athletic Bilbao)
Defenders: Nacho, Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal (all Real Madrid), Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea), Nacho Monreal (Arsenal), Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba (both Barcelona), Marc Bartra (Borussia Dortmund)
Midfielders: Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta (both Barcelona), Saul Niguez, Koke (both Atletico Madrid), Isco, Marco Asensio (both Real Madrid), Thiago Alcantara (Bayern Munich), David Silva (Manchester City), Asier Illarramendi (Real Sociedad)
Forwards: Alvaro Morata, Pedro (both Chelsea), Iago Aspas (Celta Vigo), Jose Callejon (Napoli), Rodrigo (Valencia)

Spain looks like Indian hockey team. Play well but not win. Place your bets on some other team.
