Quite baffling story. It beats all logic. Instead of wife sitting next to lady, he sat. Victim was so unaware about stuff happening to her. Can somebody sleep that deep? Wife colluding with husband even after caught red handed. Really can't piece the puzzle. But for sure, justice system is swift and apt here.
Hope they don't let him fly off. Several years ago, Chris Hansen's show - To catch a predator, an indian got caught (family man) , but fled to India before facing court. No way, one can identify him in the vast land.

Nothing baffling about the assault, its very common experience for any woman travelling alone , to have encountered sexual advances. I am so glad he is getting punished for this. Was the assaulted woman an Indian too?

Indian couple. Guy assaulted caucasian. It was baffling to me ....
1. Conservative indian 'married' woman letting husband sit next to another lady. (not stereotyping - generally if I were in that scenario, I would be letting my wife sit in the middle)
2. American lady, so asleep that she didn't realize what's happening to her - unzipping etc?
3. How come none of the other passengers on the same row, others while walking to restrooms, air hostess etc - none of them saw this?
Nowadays, its hard to predict what's the intention of the other.

I am not commenting anything about this incident, but if this incident is true, then the person irrespective of Nationality deserves life in prison.
However, we also need to ensure that flight seats are very close and there is absolutely no space between seats. Consider an example that I am sitting the Middle of the Seat and 2 ladies are sitting at both ends (Applicable to reverse role too with a Women sitting in the Middle and two men sitting on the ends) and if the flight is full, then there is no way that we have to travel the way as assigned for 10 hours or so in long flights (The only exception is one person swaps the seat among themselves or a person volunteers from other seats so that gender is same). Imagine that the Middle person is sleeping deeply and unintentionally due to sleep, if the person touches any one of the person by mistake, there is still a chance that other 2 persons might get offended. Some people also have Sleep disorders where unintentionally they might have cravings (Agreed that they should control) which cannot be uncontrolled - The person's intention might be right but due to certain circumstances the sleeping person wrongly puts his hand or body or leg to the other person, it also leads to sexual offence as per the law. The person can be innocent but we can face this situation at any time.
The best solution is to alert the Airhostess to ensure that we swap the seat to be of the same gender and if no one is volunteering, it's better that for entire travel, let's not sleep and guard ourselves. If Sleep comes further, let's tell the other 2 person on either side that I have a sleeping disorder which might affect you and if I touch accidentally, please alert me or Airhostess so that the incident does not go out of order.
The above situation happened once with me when I travelled between Frankfurt to Chennai where a person sitting on the Window seat happened to be a 24 year old girl from Chennai who was very nice and spoke well. Unfortunately, I dozed two times on her side even though I controlled my best. I apologised once I woke up but she didn't take it personally and told it's fine. I am just imagining if that girl has made a big issue and complained to Air hostess, then I might have been in deep trouble even though by heart I am innocent!! We are living in a dangerous world even though we have lot of technology to aid but life is tough sometimes.....

Best is just install cameras everywhere. Best is that there is evidence and it is not my word against your word. In SG, we have CCTV everywhere. Almost every car has CCTV. It is almost impossible to commit a crime here and get away.
