:))
An interesting article I came across that I could relate to.

I recall text messages from my kids that they forgot to take their homework/folder. I have dropped those off at the school office on my way to work. Though I protest to my wife that I shouldn't be doing that and let the kids suffer the consequence and learn, the kids usually tell her that they are fine without that homework and also add that she not expect them to maintain their grade! My wife would insist that I go drop-off their homework under such threat of impact to grades. :)

I am with you on the consequence n learn part, but we suffer a different kind of consequence from spouse - I get a more harsher one and get yelled at to throw out the parenting book approach and get back to real life to be practical minded.

My kids are grown up enough for me to not earn a rebuke from DW.
Would like to share an incident.
YS was discussing about a major transaction and the various options. He was favouring a particular option and I warned him about possible repercussions and told him to not go that route. As you know at this age, the guy knows it all and the father is an outdated ignoramus and went ahead using that option.
Two years later he got hit with a penalty of 12000 quids. He shared the info with me. I told him that I had warned him to not go that route. His response:
"But you did not insist."

We both let them face the music. We let them miss school, delay submissions etc. once in a while so as to let them to learn how to handle such situations by accepting their mistakes and the consequences.

I have never given my dad the opportunity to suggest anything to me. I directly tell him my decision, since I am afraid, if he gives me a suggestion and I refuse it, there will be bad feelings. The fact that your son gave you this opportunity is a big thing :)

boca;681206Most homeworks now-a-days are online, so forgetting something at home could be rare. But, I agree with the article that there could be repercussions. (don?t know for sure). Good to read teacher's perspective. : )

Read the outrageous requests from parents from the same article, it is hilarious :) https://www.weareteachers.com/outrageous-parent-requests-teachers/

It is the reality and unfortunately, it is also creeping into colleges.

Say your kid has a problem with a roommate. Maybe one ?borrowed? his favorite t-shirt. Maybe your daughter?s roommate leaves old, stinky Chinese take out in the mini-fridge. Perhaps your child is so upset about this he texts you five times a day to complain.
Here?s the thing: Don?t call the college president to ask him to handle the situation. (Yes, that happens.)
Jonathan Gibralter, president of Frostburg State University, has had parents call him at his office to talk about a squabble their child is having with a roommate. ?Don?t you trust your child to deal with this on his own?? he asks. ?Rather than telling a son or daughter to talk to a [resident assistant] or [resident director], parents will immediately call my office. And that I consider to be a little over the top.?[/quote]
Alas, it is dumbing [sic!] down of education system, with parents contributing to it.

College is a different ball game. We all get only one chance at parenting our kids; Overdoing it could be stemming from a fear of not doing enough.
Of course, definitely don?t endorse "lawn moving" or any of the silliness in the outrageous-requests-from-parents article. The question is how much/when we should remove ourselves from kids? lives. Esp. hard for Indian parents in US/abroad where we have to learn/unlearn parenting styles of 2 cultures.
I?m sure there was a thread about this - Would Indian parents here pay for their kids college education? Or let the kids take student loans?
Well, I guess whatever works for parent-child?
