She added that their daughters are in a state of shock, and no longer want to live in India. "We plan to go back to South Africa if there is no justice for us here. We will tell the world about this ugly experience we had in India," said Selvin. The family has been staying in Navi Mumbai for the last seven months on a dual nation citizenship.

What do you want discussed?
Does not seem a family of NRIs in the first place - they seem to be South African citizens of Indian origin who are residents of India.
Does not seem their South African citizenship was the reason they were attacked.
The female staff at D-Mart made a mistake of dumping packets in the family's shopping cart - why she did that is not clear - did she want to boost sales? :)
The husband/dad in the family made the mistake of holding her hand (perhaps firmly) and perhaps dragging her to security. He shd have gone straight to security instead of touching her.
The female staff member (perhaps because she felt humiliated) called her folks in the local village - a crowd from the village gathered and vented its ire on the guy for playing with the honor of a local gal.
The D-Mart management has abdicated its responsibility.
The Sikh men who helped the family are the only ones who come out of the episode creditably.
What else do you want said?

and these people want to go back to south africa, the last bastion of safety, justice and security in this world. Ask them go to and live in downtown jo burg or soweto. the would be shot or mugged, not just beaten up.
that said, the shetty dude should have known better than to touch another woman in India. and how would the villagers know these people are NRI's? I am sure they dont look any different. that said this kind of gunda gardi is common in India, esp with the poor folk who have a us vs. them mentality. One must be prepared for this.

Yeah, exactly.
First of all, if he does not have home turf advantage he needs to play down. Complaining to the store manager is one thing but pulling the hand of the lady and dragging her is another. If he want to be a hero, he should have been prepared to handle those 300 villagers also :emteeth:

I suspect a strong anti-NRI terrorism brewing up in India. I can see that from some posts in this forum against Non Required Indians:emsmile:

Such incidents will only grow in India in near future. People have no respect for law and order and that provoke them to take laws into their own hands. The barrier between well-off people and people from lower strata of the society is breaking down fast, as information is spreading fast. Now everyone in Indian knows that being rich is not due to his or her hard work or honesty or knowledge or character. So the awe, they once had, is disappearing fast. Now a slum dweller does not hesitate to harass a woman in public place. The only thing that still matters is, connection with powerful people in the locality. But that info need time to spread and that’s equally damaging to the society.
I was in Nerul and know the D-mart in Qs very well. It’s a very unlikely situation considering the staff I encountered there. All the staff there are very courteous and scared lot (may be due to pressure from the top). I have seen well-off guys misbehaving with them and those poor ladies just tolerate and try their best to avoid.
We need to keep in mind that the NRI person in qs has better access to news media than the D-Mart staff in qs.

In earlier times such bullying and harassment was prerogative to rich and powerful people. Now it?s spreading. This situation is increasingly getting affected due to increasing involvement of a section of slum dwellers and criminal elements in politics. Which is good news in one sense (mainly in the long run), but not so good for the society in the short term (considering that society will eventually find an unbiased and civilized way to solve the problem). Compulsion of vote bank politics and need for manpower mainly during election time will worsen the situation.

NRIs are called non required indians in india because they behave as such. this incident is the latest example. if the guy manhandled the employee, he deserved the thrashing. go india.
