Mattress recommendations?

We plan to buy and ship 1 King and 2 Queen extra-firm mattress sets in our container shipment. Good idea or just buy in India? What brands do you recommend? Any related thoughts or comments?

This is one item that we have been asked to definitely buy here. In the absence of any info I would go with Costco for the best day to deay pricing other than deals that stores have.

One thing to consider (might not be important for you):

If you buy mattress from US then the size of your bed will be determined by that and you will have to build/buy your other furniture based on that. I recently got Sleepwell mattress in India based on my exact size of a custom built bed. If you already have a mattress then you cannot have a custom-sized or designed bed.

Also ship the iron frame, headboard and sheet set to match the mattresses. The iron frame and head board should not occupy lot of space. I was never happy with the quality of mattress in India.

Hi,
We shipped Dormia mattresses and got custom made beds (cots) in India. The speciality of Dormia mattresses is, they don't have box springs, this means no steel frames and they are vaccum sealed and come in boxes. In fact, based on our mattress declaration, the customs officer was looking all over the place to find huge mattresses. When he saw the mattress boxes, he thought that we were fools and calling some probably comforters as mattresses :emsmile: . We are extremely happy with our decision to ship mattresses.

indian mattresses SUCK BIG TIME ... and they are way costly !!! 8000 Rs for a shitty Curlon Matress .. I was zapped to see the quality .. as good as sleeping on the floor and the ones we get in costco dont even exist here but a similar one ( of course the quality again sucks ) is close to around 1200 Rs .. ~ 300 USD another 200 USD you get a world class Queen Matress there.. Get what ever you can guys !!! You wont regret even if you get TIOLET PAPERS ... :emcry:

Thanks for all the suggestions. We do not have a Dormia dealer in our state. The Dormia mattresses site http://www.abed.com/dormia_beds.asp shows many varieties...Confusing. Is latex better than memory foam? What is the best extra-firm choice?

We got a memory foam bed from costco, two weeks ago. I would recomend it any day. Back pain just vanished - the first night!!

Before we R2I, we would like to buy a mattress and take it along with us. Today we visited couple of mattress shops, we were impressed by some of the tempur-pedic & posture-pedic mattresses but not sure if we need it ( as we are happy with the regular ones right now ). As the consumer reports also agrees, there is no single preferred mattress, each one has to find what suits best for them. Having said that, we would like to find the R2Ier experiences and what you find as more suitable for Indian weather ( I am R2Iing to Hyd ) - can these be used without AC, are they breathable in warmer weather, dust accumulation etc

* the usual spring mattresses ( sealy/serta better than Kurl-on ?)
* tempur-pedic mattresses tend to retain heat with them
* posture-pedic - are they breathable ?

Would appreciate if you can post your experiences and preferences.

I need to shop for a mattress as well and am considering a "Firm" mattress. I don't find the soft/plush ones comfortable. This probably rules out memory foam. I don't want to "sink" in to the mattresses.

I did not like the extra-firm mattress either.

Dormia sounds interesting, but am concerned about buying something w/o even checking it out first. The nearest store is a 100 miles away from where I live!

BTW, those who don't care about box springs etc., apparently Ikea carries something called a Platform bed.
