Am i being Selfish ??

Post by blaze »

As long as you and your spouse are happy with your return, you shouldn't really need to think of others opinions. Parents, in-laws, relatives, although want to support us, believe that they have seen everything and like the majority of others who like to rub their opinion on others, somehow make themselves obligated to get the point through. It doesn't matter even if we repeatedly insist otherwise.

You, your wife and your kids must sit down discuss rationally and decide what is good for every one, especially what is good for your kids. Do not try to compare US of today to India of today. This will mess up your decision making. The reason is when I came to US back in 1985, The America was in bad shape just like today. The housing market was down and jobs were hard to find but... gradually things start improving. There was a time where it was piece of cake finding a good job and housing market in boom. I for one made net $100k profit by selling a house that I lived in that house for less tha 2 years. But now the things have changed again. Now we people are making decisions based on todays trend. But this is not how you make decisions in life - you must try to think for long term prospectives. Since most of us are in IT we try to think in that angle. What I mean is if your kid get education in India in other field like in any health related field and than try to come to US than things will get tough in US. Because US is making harder and harder for forien graduates to get license in US to practice. It wont be that easy to pass board for a foreiner where as for Us graduate it is relatively easy. My son for instance passed his board in one attempt but my broather who is a Phd was not sucessful. In US the history says people will do far better if you are in health field. I know some people opinions may vary on this and I do not want to get in to any kind of debate on this subject. If any one do not agree it is fine but do not open up a debate on this subject. It is my opinion and thats it. Yes in order to become a health professional it is tough and needs lot of money. But you can borrow money from banks. Even though it is expensive. Once you graduate you also make big money in US and therefore you can repay with ease and very fast if you want. I know I am deviating from the main topic. Weather kids must continue stay in India or should come to US. It depends up on exactly what kids want. Good life in US or just do RIA just because they are USC and easy to come to US any time. You have to plan accordingly. Being parents you must always focuss on kids welfare more than your own. Especially if your kids are still not mature enough to make ther own decision. You only said your present company is offering a job to you in US. Your wife do not mind living in US. Now it is up to you to decide which is good for you and your kids. I will not involve my in-laws in making my family decision.
