R2A for Kids Under Graduate Study
as soon as the kids finish their undergrad, drag them back with you to India, otherwise, within 10 years, they will be visiting the R2I Club forums..
This line of thinking is not healthy. We need to think about giving kids the best of both worlds - USA and India.
Kids need to be able to shuttle between these two countries for decades and need the skills to survive in both. And also a person who has grown up, served and worked in India can survive anywhere but those in developing countries will have a hard time.
Also kids visiting the forum after 10 years. What is the harm? This is my 5th year after return and I am still here.
If the admin. approves may be the kids can continue with same handle with Jr. attached to the handle or II etc.

R2A for Kids Under Graduate Study
Any more opinion welcome........
R2A for Kids Under Graduate Study
My 2 cents:
I will soon be sailing the same boat of reservations and politics as I r2i in a couple of months. However my kid is quite young and it will be a decade before college time starts.
Bit philosophically, I began to think - why go after good education - improve quality of life by making money which makes us happy and healthy. So the ultimate goal is to be happy and healthy in whatever we do. We all lived in India before moved abroad. Got good education, quality of life improved and happiness came in. I am also seeing my counterparts who stayed back in India - especially the ones, who set their goals minimal are actually leading better happy life than me. Simple goals = simple life = less complications.
Honestly, when I was in India I had little money. Was I happy? - Ofcourse I was jubiliant and enjoyed many things in life. Now I have more money - Do I still have the same level of happiness and satisfaction. Not so much. Most of my time is spent in finding means to gather more and protect the ones that I already acquired. Hence I miss many simple things in life like quality time with my kid.
So what I am trying to say is - education in India or abroad - it is how you deal with. You were able to go abroad with education in India. Why not your kids too? If they are happy in India.
Nowadays - getting a govt seat breaking through caste reservation is absolute nightmare. With so many private colleges propped up, it is just matter of saving enough for donation and getting into a private college. Once professional, nobody cares if you are learned from private or govt - if you have your own practice.
So ultimately how we balance our life and set good ones for our future generations.
Sorry if I ranted too much.

Rajahindustani;172764"WHY and HOW LONG we can keep R2I'ing and R2A'ing back and forth?"
what is the harm in keep doing a R2I and R2A between these two countries.
Their are significant advantages to both these countries. you can pick and chose the things that you like.
"Does this mean we, in our 50's would still be dealing with this eternal question of where to settle?"
Dude get real even in India it is harder to settle at one place and sometimes you cannot walk away from opportunities.
Instead of doing a R2I and R2A why do you not think about becoming a ET or EM (Eternal Traveller or Eternal Mover) who moves from place to place for better opportunities.
Rajahindustani;304644 We need to think about giving kids the best of both worlds - USA and India.
Wow! Can not believe this is coming from Raja. Does that mean you are getting ready for
R2A?
I think this suttling back and forth is not healthy. you become na ghar ka na ghat ka and you remain confused all the time juggling two things. If you are contemplating sending your kid to USA, aren't you subjecting him to the same old stuff, boring cities, lifeless, harsh winters, same old potlucks ....yada yada. All the stuff you talked about while r2ing.
Rajahindustani;368545Dear forum members I have completed 5 years in India after returning. I returned on 14.02.2006. I have now fully adjusted to life in India and do not think of R2A at all.
In life we have to take decisions and live with the consequences. India is progressing but at a very slow pace. But the benefits of R2I are very much their. Their is a feeling of being at home which is very comforting and satisfying. We do not have a trishankoo mindset.
Living in one's own country is a totally different experience and it canot be a substitute for staying abroad.
The admin. is requested to change the title to "Completed 5 years ...".
Sirji,
I do not understand your best of both world after reading above.
