Electric Cars in India
I'm wondering if anybody gave a thought about buying electric cars after R2i. As far as I know there is only Reva now and I myself hate the current design. But the new ones NXG and NXR (I hope I got the variants right) are pretty cool to look at. Also, what is the price range for the Reva cars. Are there any other electric cars in India? Is there anything else in the pipeline for the next 2 years? I'm looking for info on pure electric cars and not hybrids. To me, it is not cost efficient to buy hybrids, when we can achieve the same effect by buying a slightly smaller car.

youngmom, I do realize that there are power issues anywhere in India. But it does not take that long to power the cars according to the manufacturers. They say that we can charge 95% of the capacity within an hour, maybe couple of hours - assuming that they are very optimistic. I'm sure we can work aorund the issue, like we work around with other issue. Also, I'm very interested in installing solar power in my future home and will get the power from the sun. It is not long when the cars themselves come with solar panel on their tops or something like that. If more and more people start relying on alternate enegy sources, we won't have power cuts anymore. So, I'm thinking positive here.

Pls. check these links. I recently read an article in Hindu which shows a number of players entering the electric cars segment. I think i10 will be coming up with electric version soon or maybe its already there. GM, Chevrolet, even Maruti and even Tata Nano will all be coming out with electric versions in next 1-3 yrs. Just google for electric cars India.
