Manual vs automatic gears in cars(agc)

I am used to Stick shift and I know it would be easier for me to drive an automatic car. Since I will be moving to the UK next month and perfectly aware that cars are tight hand drive. I really am not sure if I can handle that. =)

Long back, a friend of mine was visiting UK from usa. He had booked a manual shift car for travelling around though. I advised him against it. Having to handle both driving on left side of the road and change gears can be troublesome.

Any way, I dropped him off at the car rental place and came back home. Shortly afterwards, I received a call from him to pick up the family as he had messed up. After that he changed to an auto shift.
