You will not lose land if this was purchased before you became NRI ( Before you moved to US ) or this land was given as gift to you. Yes you can receive land in inheritance even after becoming USC.

In Maharashtra agriculture land can be only purchased by farmer. You are "Farmer" by law when your father or grandfather or wife or wife's side anybody was farmer. Or if you have taken permission to do farming. ( Collector only gives this permission when you dont have any source of income. )

Yes converting that land into NA will resolve all future issues. But you have to do the NA process which may take some time if land is not near any development zone.
